It showed probably another 6" and the wind and drifting went on all night long. WHAT IS IT WITH THIS WINTER STUFF?
I don't know if I am marooned, but it will take a couple of hours of shoveling just to get to my car to tell. It is over waist high of the fluffy light stuff over my sidewalk that had been shoveled down previously.

Another problem is I haven't been able to set out my garbage or empty my compost. I can't get to the compost bin which is covered with snow (I'm not absolutely certain where it is, I hope I don't step in it ...but at least it would be frozen). The garbage would either get blown all over the highway or covered with snow. I now know that it is a raccoon getting into it. They may think they are cunning, but they leave foot prints ha!. Actually there are probably both feral cats and coons, but the most recent midnight raid was a raccoon.

some one told me that if you dump ammonia on the garbage can, critters will leave it alone. of course this fades with time and can wash away, but it might help? (hey, if you put the ammonia IN the trashcan, they may open it, but they wouldnt stick around after that)

please be careful...I'm worried about you being so isolated!

Thanks, the ammonia is worth a good try!
Thanks for your thoughts, I'm fine, just getting somewhat discouraged. Amby is pretty entertaining though.

Oh good lord. What the heck is going on over there!!! Just what you need, more snow. I'm hoping you still have electricity and food?

I *think* I'm prepared, but that will depend on how long this lasts. My predictions (and everyone else here) have been wrong so far.

The annoying thing about the fluffy snow is that when you go to fling a shovel full of it, the whole thing just instantly disintegrates and fully half of it lands right back in your path.

To foil 'coons, we used to have our garbage cans in a wooden frame. Wedged between the cans and the frame was a 1x6 board. sitting atop the board were several large rocks. Securing each lid was a chain with one of those release things like one sees at the end of a dog leash. Yeah, it's complicated and it took us a couple of minutes to get through our own security, but it was the only thing we found that would keep the stupid things out. I suppose you could implement something like that, but I don't think the garbage collector would be too happy with you.
