Looking for suggestions because you all are the talent and creativity.

I am trying to think of crafts that people with not much artistic background could get together and do for largesse. That would still be attractive and useful for the Crown to give.

Obviously we have some people who are new but very creative like Istvan and Alvar, but we also have some new and young people whose hearts are willing but have little experience in artistic activities. But, as I said, they really want to participate.
Beaded necklaces.....

"six foot, seven foot, eight foot, BUNCH"
God I love that song, on the radio now.

Edited to say:
Thanks for the good ideas folks, we will see how the guys like to sew.

Needle/pin books are fairly easy to make and use up small bits of fabric. Just be sure to use real wool for the needle/pin pages.

Feast gear bag sets. Washable bags sized to put plates, drinking vessels, bowls etc into. Keeps them from clanking together on the way to the feast, and then you can put the dirty dishes back into them to take home. Toss in wash. Simple, flat sewing.

Small presentation bags for the largesse also use up bits of leftover fabric and make it easier for retinue to prepare gifts to be presented in court. Just little drawstring pouches, etc. You can add An Tir heraldry via appliqué, embroidery, or whatever.

Beeswax candles are the easiest craft EVER. They are excellent for people who have more money than time, since two people can make several dozen candles in a few hours.

You can purchase hemmed cloth napkins on line, cut a stencil or two, and put newbies to work stenciling cloth napkins.

I've been thinking maybe throwing tiny plates, covering them with white terra sig and having people paint Middle Eastern Designs with underglazes. Since I have been inspired by [livejournal.com profile] cnewsonsmith's work for the PPF.

One of my favorite things I have done for largesse was needle felted finger puppets...not a period item, not a period technique...but they are good for giving to kids, and are less obnoxious than plastic soldiers. (At least I think so)

Anglo-Saxon stamped annular brooches. Want that I should write up an article with a supplies and resources list and send it your way?

Or maybe plan a Saturday in the spring where I come out and show and tell?

Let me know.

I was so excited when I read you might come over OMG. Yah!

I've been in admiration of the pics of your broaches you have posted here. I think we'd love the article, so yes please. I'm such a visual person I hope I can follow them.

Metal brocade card weaving.

;P

Haversacks are easy to put together. Little pouches for necklaces & stuff. I'd love to have some little beaded bracelets/necklaces to give to children.
