I heard from our Guild treasurer, Empty Bowls brought in more money than previous years (yah!) The local Hunger Organization that 1/2 of the proceeds will go to this year is "Backyard Harvest" they encourage/gather/help/publicize planting a section of individual's gardens with the intention of giving excess fresh produce & local eggs to families in need. The other half goes to OxFam.

More beautiful bowls:

This one was painted by [livejournal.com profile] 366999 I wish I would have asked him about his imagery, but the bowl is sold now.

Michael's bowl

This bowl painted by [livejournal.com profile] freewaydiva was chosen by a little girl because it was pretty :-)

This one by [livejournal.com profile] freewaydiva went home with herself. Note to other ceramic artists, we are close to having another recruit bwahahaha world domination is ours!

the bowls of the children were pre-purchased by the parents and will be delivered at May Crown. As big as my kiln is, with 4 workshops, plus my own pottery I ran out of space (!), even with the two new shelves Turi picked up for me.

Here are some bowls I made for the event:

This was purchased by my student teacher who is also a pony person. This particular horse is from a Medieval underglazed Persian plate, but I left off his rider.

I wasn't all that pleased with the way the colors turned out on this one, but I like the design.

Persian cloud motif.

Again with the vegetables I've been working with.

The tree was first sketched in with an underglaze pencil, then I added underglaze paints.

And of course some Pelicans had to stick their beaks in.

I LOVED the Persian cloud one. So pretty! I don't remember seeing Ulfred's out on the table, but it's really quite striking!

These get better every year.

Have you considered doing an online one of these? I don't know how many of your non-local flist would be interested in playing, but I would. No soup and all the proceeds would go to the charity of your choice. I'd expect to pay for shipping, too. Good deeds and a chance to play...work with your favorite artists.

That's a good idea, but at the moment I'm a little burned out on Empty Bowls and trying to think of better ways to do it. It will take 1/2 year before I can start actual planning again. Overhead costs on the bowls took a lot out of my pocket.
