morgaina: (snow)

We have had a lot of snow. It has snowed every day and is really piling up. But recently it has become wetter than the dry fluffy stuff. So in the midst of my flu last night, an avalanche slid off the roof of my front porch into the front window breaking part of it out. This means I have snow in the house. And then the electricity (includes heat, water, telephone)went out with me not feeling strong enough to take measures.

Things are more or less back to usual now. The electricity is back on after about 8 hours. I have cardboard over the broken window, Adam and [livejournal.com profile] dancing_guru are here bringing gifts of presto-logs (my wood source and path to it are covered in snow) for my back-up heat source; and are shoveling the snow away from the broken window. (Although the snow was thick & heavy enough to provide some insulation).

Amby won't let me out of his sight. He sticks to me like glue. He is a faithful hound.

Yes, and thanks.
I think I have proven my mettle to the weather powers and should have a pleasant rest of the winter. Perhaps even do some snowshoeing even for pleasure rather than necessityl.

Came. Through. The. Window? Ack! That'd be rotten enough when healthy, but while having the flu?

Wish I could do something for you, like bring you soup and firewood. I'm so glad to see that dancing_guru and Adam are there to help. Oh, and Amby, too!

And I would take them with gratitude.

Any suggestions for soup? I make lentil, split pea, and black bean so much I need to increase my soup menu.

We like to do the "roast a chicken then make soup" sort of thing. Himself makes a very excellent hot and sour soup. Butternut squash soup is pretty darn tasty. You can make it with or without an apple or onions. I think it's too sweet without the onions, but onions and apples added to the squash are very tasty. There's also the classic stone soup recipe, which truly translates out to whatever's languishing in your veggie bin plus some sort of protein.
