morgaina: (are you pondering what I'm pondering?)

After a bit of struggle, I got Skype downloaded and a new webcam connected. This is a gluttony of technology for me and it was done to make it easier to talk to my son & DIL in Guadalahara. We had our first Skype conversation this afternoon with much of the conversation being: "Hello, Hello, are you still there?" in louder than usual conversational voices.
It reminded me so much of being a child in my grandparent's home and listening to the adults talk on the old box wind-up telephone.

I had a nice conversation with son & DIL using it.
They still don't have telephone service, so they plan on the skype is taking its place.

We use Skype for phone calls to Japan and Maui. Sometimes Maui cuts out, but the only problem I've ever had with Japan is during a typhoon. My mother (85 & a bit hard of hearing) swears that when I call on Skype to her regular phone, it is easier to hear than when I use the cell or house phone.

Best of all - free!!! Yeah to be able to keep in touch with your kids.

It did cut out several times. I wonder why it seems more reliable in some places than others?
Very interesting how it increases your mother's ability to hear.

When R & I would skype when he was in the Sandbox, reception was bad. When I skyped with my brother in law when he was in Japan, it was fabulous. All depends on both your internet, and the internet connection where you are calling.

My connection is not that great, as I am in the boonies here and have to use dial-up.
Just got a Skype message from you!
If I accidently hang-up while I am trying to figure this out, please don't be offended.
Big learning curve for me ;-)

I have Skype, too. It worked out really well when R was in the Sandbox.

Glad you found a good way to keep in touch. BTW, I love your Vorenus icon - can I steal it? :D
