I think this is the last

photograph of a pot I made for a Christmas present. Well, I made more, but these three pics are of the slightly unusual ones.

My oldest son & DIL don't do the SCA but they go camping often and he once expressed interest in a pipkin when I explained them.
So I made him a Pipkin and tripod pouring bowl and put it in this box along with some back-packing packaged meals from MaryJane's Farm. Mary Jane's farm stuff is another friends Moscow-based business. http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/

This was another very fun set to make and give. The wooden box is quite nice but was a bit difficult to obtain. I would like to find more for similar sets. Any of you woodworkers want to go into business with me? ;-)

Ahhh. Lucky are the ones who have your pipkins. LOVE ours!

Thanks,
I am glad it is getting lots of use!

I am not sure the size of your box, but I think that Michael's has unfinished wooden boxes for sale in their stores. I remember a wooden ammo box that is 18"x10 3/4"x8 3/4".

Thanks, I'm looking for handmade boxes though and boxes better made than Michaels. This box was made by a craftsman for another potter who sold it to me to be nice, but just the one.
It would be cool to find actual ammo boxes, but those are "collectibles" now and even the thrift-type stores I've seen have exaggerated prices. The last one I saw in a thrift store I considered as it would have been a good size for camping, but between the price and the condition decided against it.

Beautiful! Hmm...you know, I do have that dovetailing setup. And a passable router (but could use a good excuse to get a nicer one...and some bits). What I don't have is a table saw, but only because I don't have an excuse. Well, okay, I'd have to do some work in my garage to make it a wood shop. Still... nice wooden boxes are awfully fun to make. Hmmm...

I would love providing any good excuse you require ;-)
