It's exciting that some of you want to do the glazing thing!

What people have expressed interest in is:
1) Me bringing the materials to May Crown and taking some time there to maiolica. Then bringing the finished projects to Coronation.
Positive: No additional traveling for anyone, maybe get Gwen's help if we ask real nice.
Challenges: Some transportation smearing and breakage is possible (not inevitable) though.

2) You all coming to my studio do do clay of choice.
Positive: All the materials on hand.
Challenges: finding a good date, travel, and it IS in Idaho ;-)

3) Me coming West or North.
positive: Someone else does the logistics & site, (West) I'd get to see my kids again, maybe get Gwen and Raphaella's help.
Challenges: Finding a place to glaze fire, finding a good date, travel.

4) Something else.

I will be coming to Seattle and Portland first week in April to visit my children, but don't think I will have time to get maiolica materials & bowls together enough by that time.

I would *love* to see something planned for a little later in the summer, maybe. So people can sort out the logistics, and there's plenty of time to prepare.

Sigh, I would love to do this too but unfortunately I think I won't have time to drive down. Alas. BTW, is maiolica the same a majolica? If so, then I even know what it is. :) (I have a potter/sculptor friend up here).

I have a kiln, and space in the house to work (Silverdale, WA), or on the back patio if the weather is good. Firing is not an issue. I usually go to cone 6 - might could go to 10, but I've not taken this kiln up that high. I prefer to stay at cone 6 with the electric, because of the cost of firing.

I'm sure I can arrange crash space on this side.

Anyway, it's an option.

Sounds good. I do the maiolica at ^6 for sturdyness, although it's supposed to be an earthenware. Ron Roy developed a very nice maiolica white base at that temperature.

Too bad, I would like to see what you do with maiolica, someday though we will.
Maiolica is Italian, Majolica is Spanish, Delft is Dutch, Faience is French. All began with (you won't be surprised) the Middle Eastern Tin-Glazed.
