and what will the Robin do then? Poor Thing.
Months ago, I planned to attend Daedin's blow-out party, but as time progressed, I realized that it wouldn't be a good idea to spend the money. So my next plan to help me comfort myself was to attend the Palouse Women Artist's annual retreat. I was going to day-trip so there wouldn't be any cost.
However, then I had car issues. My Subaru with such excellent snow abilities is down and out. Whereas the big Suburban has 4WD, but no snow tires. We went from no snow a day ago to about 3 inches today. 3 inches isn't that bad, but up in the mountains, where the retreat will be held, it will be bad with roads not well maintained. My heart wants to go anyway, but I've lived here long enough to have developed a little common sense about travel.
There were many reasons to look forward to the PWA retreat, among which was that it was going to force me out of my artistic comfort zone. We all bought 10 canvases size 8"x8" and were going to paint them all over the weekend. I haven't painted for years (except occasional demonstrations to my students). Other challenges would be working so fast, I tend to be slow and deliberate. Also we would be doing art work in the midst of a noisy, energetic, fun, semi-drunk group of women, whereas I, like most of us, work in a quiet solitary situation.
All my canvases gessoed and my paintings somewhat planned. I want to paint fresh produce, so I went to the store & purchased my models. Fresh produce in Northern Idaho this time of year is...questionable, the shape and size of the strawberries in particular are downright menacing.
I'm still going to paint them, I have the paints and brushes and I am looking forward to it, just not the weekend I had hoped for.
