Thursdayness

This early afternoon I take HES to the airport. It has been so good to have him here for so long. I am also so very grateful to him, he painted the front of the house and it looks so much better. That is the biggest area, I should be able to finish painting the rest myself. After about a week and a half in Chicago he and DIL will set out for their new home in Guadalahara. (Must, must, must get passport paperwork completed!)

I unloaded the kiln this morning, in general the load looks good. There are a few things I am slightly dissatisfied with the glaze so will slap more glaze on and re-fire. That is fairly typical for how I work.
I was happy with the amphorae for [livejournal.com profile] tjk_40 the tallest one, shown here is 17". One not shown broke in the bisque firing :-( This was the most amazingly fun group of pots to make.

These look awesome! I want to make some as well one of these days. It's been on my "to do" list since an An Tir laurel (I just know his real name... Bill, he's a jewelry merchant and does amazing stuff) asked me to make some like three or so years ago along with three other greek forms.

How are you going to glaze them?

Thanks :-)
[livejournal.com profile] tjk_40 asked me to glaze the interior, which I did with a transparent, but so it wouldn't show. The example pic she sent me was in white clay, thus the clay body. And, from what I've found, they wouldn't have been glazed.

BTW, did you throw these in pieces or what?

[identity profile] copper-oxide.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I threw them in two pices and put them together (eh, well of course;-)) It seemed the best way to get the bases pointed, trimming them down would not be very graceful.

William Bjornson. Nice guy. :)

Yes he is! Him and his wife were some of the first An Tirians to welcome me to the Kingdom face-to-face. :)

Amphorae are so much fun, I recommend doing them!!!!! I liked working with pure shape since I have the tendency/addiction of so much surface design. I used a very plastic clay and that helped too.

AH HAH!!!

2 pieces. Excellent. I had a request to make some too, and was failing mightily because I was trying to make them in one throw.

THANK YOU!

You're welcome.
I could possibly imagine them being thrown upside down too, but the two pieces work so well I would guess they were thrown this way in period too. Or perhaps coil and throw, which is how I usually do larger work and is common in Oriental countries.
