recent work

The Guild is doing a lot of bowls for our Empty Bowl Project. So it is a good excuse to do many bowls. A few other things I've been doing too.

Several shades of purple on this bowl with spriging decoration on the exterior.

This is a deep purple, the shine in the photo looks less than purple but it is a super-duper purple again with spriging on the exterior.

Maiolica painting, cone 6. the design came out most crisp on this maiolica of those I've done in this set.

This one was done with underglazes and a transparent over. The browns are too weak. The pepper looks pretty good though.

This one is in maiolica.

A story with this bowl. The drawing was done by a student who is developmentally delayed. The class did bowls for the "Y" soup bowl charity. After doing the drawing the next day he had to stay home with headlice, and since the bowls had to be completed I glazed it for him (and of course the bowl was also thrown by me). After it was glazed I loved it so much I bought it back for myself. With all my years of practice I couldn't do a drawing like this. Picasso has a quote that goes something like: "When I was a child I could paint like Raphael, but it has taken me all my life to paint like a child." And I think this bowl is an example of what he meant.

The green got blurry. [livejournal.com profile] slysodonia I know you've done a lot of maiolica, did I get the glaze too hot do you think? Or too thick? It's a cone 6 maiolica. I like the way the squash disfigured a bit though, looks very "squashy"

Both regular glazes and underglazes with transparent on this bowl.

The communion set. The person who ordered it was very specific about design and glaze. The platter looks small here, but is the angle of the photo, it is large.

The Shibori scarf with a darker dye, then steam set. I tend towards deeper colors, but I like this :-) as a beginning project.

The one you wrote this about "Maiolica painting, cone 6. the design came out most crisp on this maiolica of those I've done in this set." is my favorite of all of them. I really like how it came out.

My bowls will be plain jane in comparison. I really like that one that you bought back. It is wonderful.

To thick by the look of it. It is still very beautiful though!

Lovely bowls! I really like them!
And I like the Picasso qoute. That kid had a very intersting bowl!

The child's drawing made me smile immediately. I love that bowl. Your work is beautiful.
